The day I turned seventy‑four began before sunrise, in that quiet desert hour when the air is cool and the world has not yet awakened. I opened the windows, as I often do, to let the night breeze move through the house. The sounds of the morning — the sliding window, the creak of the door, the neighbors beginning their day — stirred more activity than I expected, and the day began with a sense of tension I hadn’t intended.
As the morning unfolded, I realized I needed to look inward rather than outward. I felt the Spirit reminding me that my reflections must remain my own — that I am responsible for recording my experiences, my thoughts, and my spiritual growth, without interpreting or speaking for anyone else. That understanding settled over me like a quiet correction, gentle but firm.
Later in the morning, I prepared for a visit to the St. George Temple — something I had hoped to do on my birthday. My timing was imperfect, and I arrived later than planned, but the Lord opened a way for me to join a later session. I walked into the Temple with gratitude, aware that even when my schedule falters, His timing remains steady.
When I left the Temple, I learned that a new grandson had been born that morning — on my birthday. Two lives beginning new chapters, seventy‑four years apart. It felt like a tender mercy, a reminder that life continues to unfold in ways we cannot predict, and that the Lord weaves joy into our days in His own quiet way.
Throughout the afternoon and evening, messages arrived from family and friends — from every season of my life. Their words reminded me how richly the Lord has blessed me with relationships, experiences, and opportunities to grow. I shared a brief reflection online to thank them, but as the night settled in, I felt a prompting to return my focus to the private work the Lord has given me: to write my own history, to reflect on my own journey, and to keep my heart aligned with the covenant path.
As the day closed, I felt humbled by all that had unfolded. The morning’s tension, the Temple’s peace, the birth of a grandson, the kindness of loved ones — all of it formed a single thread of gratitude. I ended the day with a renewed commitment to write with integrity, to honor the privacy of others, and to let the Lord shape my heart through the quiet work of reflection.
It was a birthday I will never forget — not because of celebration, but because of clarity.
